In a historic stride towards self-reliance in railway technology, India’s first made-in-India bullet train is set to roll out by December 2026, announced Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Ltd. The project is a collaboration between BEML, the National High Speed Rail Corporation, and the Integral Coach Factory, under the Indian Railways.
- Roy described the initiative as a transformative milestone, emphasizing that the intellectual property for the project will remain entirely within the country. BEML has been tasked with designing and manufacturing two prototypes, marking India’s first venture into high-speed rail technology.
“This is the first time anything like this is being done in the country. It’s a challenging timeline, but with a joint effort, we are confident of achieving it,” said Roy.
The project not only showcases India’s engineering capabilities but also reflects a commitment to reducing dependence on foreign technology. Financially, BEML plans to support its capital expenditure through debt without raising external funds.
This initiative promises to revolutionize India’s railways, paving the way for faster, more advanced transportation and boosting the country’s technological and manufacturing prowess
