Food delivery giant Swiggy, led by Sriharsha Majety, has introduced a new feature called ‘Scenes’ within its main app, focusing on live events and ticketing. This launch comes shortly after rival Zomato debuted its standalone experiences app, District, intensifying competition between the two companies in the events and ticketing space.
With Scenes, Swiggy users can explore and book tickets for various events, including New Year’s Eve parties, live music shows, and DJ nights at partner restaurants. Unlike Zomato’s District, which operates as a separate app and includes movie ticket sales, Swiggy integrates Scenes into its superapp, emphasizing convenience and multifunctionality.
The contrasting strategies—Swiggy’s superapp approach versus Zomato’s superbrand ecosystem—highlight the evolving battle for dominance in India’s lifestyle and entertainment sector. This development marks a significant step for both companies in diversifying beyond food delivery.
