IIT Kharagpur is set to host Megalith 2026, its annual civil engineering festival, from March 20 to 22, 2026, bringing together some of the brightest engineering minds from across the country. Building on the success of previous editions, which witnessed participation from over 5000 students nationwide, this year is expected to witness a similar scale of participation, reaffirming its status as a leading national-level technical event.
Megalith continues to serve as a platform where innovation, technical expertise, and creative problem-solving converge, offering a balanced mix of competitions, workshops, and interactive sessions.

Day 1: Grand Opening, Competitive Spirit, and Cultural Kickoff
The festival will commence with a grand opening ceremony, marking the formal inauguration of Megalith 2026 and setting the tone for three days of innovation and collaboration. The ceremony is expected to bring together students, faculty members, and distinguished guests, highlighting the significance of the fest as a hub of technical excellence.
The first day will witness the beginning of intense competition with events such as Beat-D-Euclid, where participants will demonstrate their proficiency in computer-aided design through problem-solving and precision-based challenges. Dark Code will test participants’ programming skills in tackling engineering-oriented computational problems, emphasizing logical thinking and efficiency.
Preliminary rounds of flagship events including Liftovate (Hydraulic Lift Design Challenge), Vortex, Instridge, and Criar will also be conducted. These events are designed to assess a wide range of competencies, from structural design and mechanical understanding to creativity and innovation. Participants will begin developing and presenting their initial solutions, setting the stage for the more rigorous evaluation rounds in the following days.
The day will conclude with a performance by the Western Technology Music Society, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere and offering participants an opportunity to unwind after a day of competitive activity.

Day 2: Innovation, Hands-On Learning, and Creative Exploration

Survey Hunt will test participants’ on-ground technical skills, requiring precision, teamwork, and a sound understanding of surveying techniques in dynamic conditions. The continuation of Criar will further challenge participants to refine and present their evolving design ideas.
The day will also feature a stand-up comedy performance, offering a lively interlude that fosters camaraderie and provides a refreshing break amidst the technical engagements.

Day 3: Final Showdowns, Expert Insights, and Grand Closure
The concluding day of Megalith 2026 will bring the festival to its most competitive and intellectually engaging phase, featuring the final rounds of Instridge, Liftovate, and Vortex. Participants will present comprehensive solutions that demonstrate technical proficiency, innovation, and real-world applicability.
These final stages are expected to simulate practical engineering challenges, requiring participants to integrate design principles, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills under pressure.
A key highlight of the day will be the panel discussion, where experts from academia and industry will deliberate on pressing issues in civil engineering, including sustainable infrastructure, urban development, and emerging technologies shaping the future of the field.
